Pilotage in Wellington is undertaken by CentrePort Wellington in accordance with the provisions of the Maritime Transport Act and associated legislation, and Greater Wellington Regional Council bylaws.
Pilotage is compulsory for vessels exceeding an International Gross Registered Tonnage (GRT) of 500, except where Masters hold a current Pilotage Exemption Certificate for Wellington Harbour and the vessel does not exceed 145m in length or 8,000 GRT.
