On Monday 17 April, the Takutai Chief from Swire Shipping’s Pacifica NZ service made its maiden call into CentrePort.

Pacifica NZ is a new weekly service designed to trans-ship full and empty containers from other New Zealand ports via Wellington.

CentrePort Chief Executive Anthony Delaney says “We’re delighted about this new weekly service calling at CentrePort, which will take advantage of our capacity and efficiency within our existing port operation.  Our people have put in a great deal of work to operate as a reliable, safe, and resilient part of the New Zealand supply chain following the Kaikōura earthquake in 2016.”

Delaney says that the initial reaction from customers has been positive, as the solution it provides alleviates some of the disruption they are experiencing. “It is something that our customers can depend on, and we are excited for the alternatives that it provides.”

“We are also excited to support Swire Shipping with their coastal solutions and making it a success for New Zealand. This is going to bring some relief to New Zealand’s shipping congestion and will provide our existing and new customers opportunities to trans-ship cargo to and from CentrePort.”
