As our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor, you’ll play a key role in driving initiatives as a member of the Health and Safety team that make our operations safer, cleaner, and more sustainable — every day.

 

Make an impact where it counts

This is a hands-on role where you’ll work alongside teams across the port, providing guidance, support, and expertise to help everyone go home safe and protect the environment we operate in.

 

Your tasks will include:

  • Lead and champion environmental and sustainability programmes across port operations.
  • Support health, safety, and environmental initiatives, including risk assessments, incident investigations, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide practical, proactive guidance on HSE compliance and best practice.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and prepare clear, actionable reports.
  • Deliver engaging initiatives including training and toolbox talks to help build awareness and accountability across all teams.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Working outside of normal hours on occasion to support the needs of the business and our health, safety, and environmental needs.

 

Who you are

You are passionate about creating safer workplaces and protecting the environment. You understand the challenges of working in a dynamic, high hazard workplace setting and enjoy building strong relationships to get things done.

 

You’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Health & Safety, or other related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in providing environmental and HSE advice in operational settings.
  • A working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and environmental legislation.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in conducting audits, investigations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience with Toitū programmes, carbon reduction, or sustainability projects.
  • Membership (or eligibility) with NZISM, NZSC, or similar body.
  • Understanding of Māori perspectives on natural resource use.
