Cruise Passenger Information
Welcome to Wellington, Te Whanganui-a-Tara
Welcome to our cool little capital. The Wellington Cruise berth is approximately 1.5 kms (or 1 mile) north of the city CBD.
What to expect when your vessel arrives
CentrePort has berth facilities dedicated to cruise vessels and passengers.
When you disembark the gangway, you will enter our cruise zone, which is creatively designed from recycled shipping containers (see the gold map marker below).
In this space, you will find toilets, a local NZ gift shop, a convenience store, shelter, and an information centre. The area also has free Wifi and spaces to sit and relax before or after you venture into the region.
You will be met by local city ambassadors and friendly cruise hosts who will assist with any of your needs.
Shore excursions
All cruise vessels visiting CentrePort offer amazing shore excursions and experiences which you can book onboard. We encourage you to explore what's on offer to make the most of your time in Wellington.
Access to and from our Berth
If you'd prefer to make your own way into the city, please check in with your vessel about shuttle and city walk options available to you on the day of your arrival. When you are ready to head on your adventure, ship staff will guide you to the best mode of transport for you, whether that's a bus for your chosen shore excursion, or the shuttle bus to Lambton Quay. The shuttle bus stops outside the Historic Government Buildings in Wellington's main CBD (see the blue map marker below).
You can only pick up friends or family in the city
If you're a local and want to pick up a cruise passenger, please arrange to collect them from outside the Old Government Buildings on Lambton Quay, or at a safe collection point in the city.
No taxi access on port
Taxis are not permitted to pick up or drop of passengers at the wharf. If you need to catch a taxi, please arrange to be picked up somewhere safe in the city or from the cruise shuttle stop.
Getting back to the ship
If your tour company is not dropping you off directly back at the wharf, please ensure you catch a cruise shuttle in time to get back to the ship. The cruise shuttle bus stops at the Old Government Building on Lambton Quay.

Explore our city and our regions
The Wellington Region offers a rich selection of experiences, with our coffee roasteries and local breweries, stunning waterfront, recognised arts and culture, nature tours, and regional vistas and wineries. We offer safe and efficient transport for passengers to and from our berth and Central Wellington City.
It’s easy to get from the runway to the wharf in no time, as Wellington International Airport is only 8.5km (5 miles) from CentrePort.
